New Estate — Researching the Future of the Internet
New Estate · Research & Policy Programme

Researching the future of the internet.

The internet wasn't built to support independent media. It was built to maximise attention.

Redesigning the rules, area by area.

New Estate is our research and policy programme exploring how the rules of the digital world could be redesigned to create a healthier information ecosystem, one that rewards trustworthy journalism, gives independent media a fair chance to thrive, and puts the public interest ahead of platform incentives.

Working with publishers, researchers, policymakers and civil society, we're developing practical proposals to reshape everything from platform regulation and AI to competition, funding, visibility and digital infrastructure.

The goal is simple: to help create an internet where high-quality independent media can flourish, democracy is strengthened, and people, not platforms, have greater control over the information environment.
