A new policy brief from the M20 UK working group calls on the UK Government to make information integrity a priority when it hosts the G20 in 2027.

Information Integrity as a UK G20 Priority: The Case for Inclusion in the 2027 Agenda argues that trustworthy, independent public interest news is essential to democracy, economic stability and public trust. It says these are increasingly at risk from rapid AI development, the growing dominance of a few tech platforms, and the spread of mis- and disinformation.

Among its recommendations, the brief calls for information integrity to be named as a formal priority of the UK’s presidency. It also proposes a new G20 working group on fair AI and media governance, to agree principles on attribution, consent and fair payment when AI companies use news content.
